The land on which the properties at Pooles Wharf Court (and Pooles Wharf confusingly) were constructed was a plot of land previously called Pooles Wharf, because of the business run by the 'Pooles brothers'. Some five years before work commenced on the homes the site was used as a commercial Sand wharf supplying sand to the local building trade. Previous to that, in the 1800s part of the site was used as a Coal Wharf supplying the local population and Steam-Ships which visited the Bristol Docks.
