Now this is the confusing page ... please read on slowly ... "Pooles Wharf" was the name of the
Sand Wharf on which the homes were built. Crest Homes built two
developments on the one site and originally called them both Pooles Wharf ... 1-25 Pooles Wharf
are the flats off Hotwell Road and 1-93 Pooles Wharf is the larger estate off Rownham Mead, with quite separate accesses to the two
developments. Once people started moving in this obviously caused confusion for the residents, visitors, postal service and delivery drivers, so Crest Homes hastily renamed the larger group to "Pooles Wharf Court" but still leaving the estate with an entrance arch which originally displayed as "Pooles Wharf". "Pooles Wharf" (without the "Court") comprises 25 flats set between "Pooles Wharf Court" and the Hotwell Road, and is accessed directly from the Hotwell Road (no wonder delivery drivers still get confused!). These were originally constructed as 'affordable' starter-homes as a requirement of the Planning consent given to Crest Homes to develop the Pooles Wharf site, but the prices that these properties have risen to in today's housing market could in no way now be considered as low-cost! Some of the flats have
views to the waterfront through the alley-way between 80-81. Most have
south-facing balconies except for the few at ground level with entrances from
Hotwell Road. |
